For decades, Kodachrome was a good friend to countless photographers — until Kodak discontinued the film in 2009. From that point on, developing it through the K14 process became impossible anywhere in the world.

I started too late with photography to ever shoot it myself. I've always been the analog guy in this digital world, and I shot everything else you can think of — Kodak Tri-X 400, Portra, Fuji Velvia. But I could never shake the feeling that I'd missed the chance to shoot Kodachrome 64. Watching the documentary about the last roll of Kodachrome, shot by Steve McCurry in 2010, only made that feeling stronger.

If I couldn't shoot Kodachrome on 35mm, could I recreate its look digitally instead? I read everything I could find about color science and how digital cameras render color, trying to understand how Lightroom builds a look from raw data. The goal was a preset that would work with any camera that shoots RAW. That was the start of the Classic K14 Project — and years later, it's now in its third generation.
